Summary

I have started a broad investigation into the MIQ booking system after receiving hundreds of complaints.

I want to know if the MIQ booking system is fit for purpose, fair, and properly managed.

If it’s not, I will want to know what plans are in place to improve it.

I will also look into allegations that the booking system limits a citizen’s right to re-enter New Zealand.

And that it prevents tangata whenua from accessing their marae and tūrangawaewae, contrary to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Disabled people have also told me that the online booking system disadvantages them.

Anyone wanting a space in MIQ should keep using existing channels as my investigation will be looking at the system overall.

I will be letting Parliament know of my substantive findings, and any recommendations, early next year.

I may also make public statements earlier, if I think it necessary.

Find out more about my investigation, and making complaints about MIQ, on my website.
